Revista de História da Arte (RHA) is an open-access art history journal, published online twice a year, by the Instituto de História da Arte of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The journal publishes multi- and cross-disciplinary academic articles that address and critically analyse historical and current conditions of art practice and theory in the global field. The journal is indexed in ERIH PLUS and DOAJ.
RHA provides a high-quality double-anonymised peer-review process for all papers published in the journal. We publish in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and welcome original scholarly articles, as well as creative proposals on a variety of topics. We do not consider previously published material or submissions currently under review elsewhere. RHA welcomes submissions from researchers at different stages of their academic or professional careers.
RHA pays particular attention to Portuguese art history and Portugal-related themes, but is by no means confined to that scope. We welcome contributions that foster cross-disciplinary and cross-chronological approaches, engaging with a broad spectrum of geographic contexts and methodologies. We are interested in perspectives from the fields of art history and theory, visual arts, architecture and urbanism, museum and heritage studies, and curatorial and artistic practices, as well as those coming from disciplines within the social sciences.
We welcome submissions in the following formats:
- Academic research articles (6.000 to 9.000 words, including footnotes and bibliography)
- Interviews (2.000 to 3.000 words)
- Book reviews; current exhibitions overviews (max. 3.000 words)
- Creative visual essays (5-10 images, followed by a brief text of 700 to 1.000 words)
Other proposals may be considered at the discretion of the Editors-in-Chief and the Editorial Board.
Submissions must comply with RHA Author Guidelines, available here.
Proposals must include: the author’s name, institutional affiliation, email, and a biographical note (up to 80 words); a 150-word abstract of the article (in English, or in Portuguese and English for submissions in Portuguese); and 5 to 10 keywords (commencing with the author’s name) for online searches.
